Mehmet Akgunay is a Senior Investment Officer with the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), focusing on the Middle East, Turkey, and Central Asia. With two decades of experience in emerging markets and sustainable finance, he has led more than US$1 billion in new business transactions and managed a portfolio exceeding US$800 million. In addition to his role as Senior Investment Officer, Mehmet serves as the FIG Regional Climate Lead for the investments in the Middle East and GCC region, spearheading climate-focused investments and sustainable finance initiatives. Over his 16-year tenure at IFC, he has originated, executed, and supervised structured finance, capital market, debt, and equity transactions across banking, insurance, and leasing sectors. Prior to joining IFC, Mehmet was an Auditor in Charge at Deloitte, overseeing IFRS, SPK, and BDDK-compliant audits for major financial institutions. He holds an MBA from Bilgi University and a BA in Economics from Bilkent University.
