Safia Tmiri is Alfanar’s Executive Director and brings a wealth of experience in the social impact sector, human capital development, and investment. Safia has previously worked for over 15 years in strategy consulting at McKinsey & Company and in investment advisory at the Millennium Finance Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank, and the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) in Dubai, Istanbul, and Washington, DC. At McKinsey, Safia was an associate partner in the Middle East office, working on human capital development with a focus on future skills and public-private partnerships. She also launched the firm’s social impact practice, supporting leading NGOs, foundations and social enterprises to improve educational outcomes and livelihoods for refugees and underserved populations in the region. During her tenure in investment advisory, she helped deliver large-scale infrastructure transactions in telecoms and municipal infrastructure and supported sovereign funds in their investment strategies and long-term capital deployment.
Safia has assisted several founders in building and scaling their social enterprises to address education and employment challenges for underprivileged communities. She serves as a board member at Sistech and is a member of the advisory board at Masteur. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School of Government and an MSc in Strategy and Finance from ESSEC Business School.
Safia is an avid reader, yogi, and writes Arabic poetry and op-eds about the state of education, art, and geopolitics in the Arab world.
